The Duxbury High School Sailing Team was established in 1999 as a Varsity Sport at the High School. Since it's establishment, the team has grown to a 30 member squad that sails during the spring sports season. Practice begins in mid-March and goes through the end of May. The team practices Monday-Friday from 3:30-6 pm and often competes both during the week and on the weekends. Due to the heavy regatta schedule, travel, and significant practice time which includes practices over spring break the team requires a full commitment from its members. Sailors on the team are required to own drysuits to protect themselves in the cold weather months of March and April.
The 2013 Captains for the DHS Sailing Team are Alec Stewart, Alex Palfrey, Hanno Kite-Powell and Meg Mackinnon. With a stacked competition schedule this season, the team has a lot of work ahead of them.
The team will have its first meeting of the season at the High School in early March. The Coaches have asked the sailors to study their play books and rule books before that meeting. Several online quizzes have been created by the coaches to help get the team prepared for the upcoming season. The coaches ask that all team members complete these quizzes before the first meeting in the Spring. The quizzes are emailed to all team members during the winter months. DHS students that would like to join the sailing team should contact Head Coach, Chris Lash to get on the email list. Please email him to be added to the list, get additional information on the team, and get materials needed for the season including a team race play book.
